This little tree and a twin were transplanted from our woods to be a shade tree for our small kid’s play yard in 1981. After 32 years we have the slowest growing “shade” tree in the neighborhood. They are the Last to get leaves on in the Spring, and they are the earliest trees to lose their leaves in the fall. But at least they produce nuts now (maybe for 8 years)…Although these nuts are tasty, they have very small meats and very hard shell!
